I got an email today which I can best describe as ridiculous. It’s so ridiculous I simply had to talk about it publicly here on dnxpert.com.
First, let’s get to the email itself. I opted to paste the email below minus the name of the person who sent it simply to save them from any further ridicule…
The email:
Hi,
I think you are doing a dis-service to domainers with your blog about GoDaddy Auctions. Prices have gone sky high for most of the domains you highlight. See what’s written on NamePros
http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/714093-godaddy-auctions-more-competitive.html.
I’m contacting DotWeekly.com as well. These are the only 2 I know of currently who are blogging about these auctions.rgds

I’ve been aware of the thread from the outset as it sent dnxpert.com and my expired domain lists traffic – an irony in itself. I opted to not do anything about it and to not get involved in the thread itself for reasons I shall outline below.
I put my thoughts in point form as I am having trouble trying not to wander off on a tangent from all the laughter…
Funny number 1: The notion that a billion dollar company (Godaddy) relies on I and Jamie for the purpose of promoting their expired domain auction. Of course it has nothing to do with the ongoing efforts Godaddy makes every day to get exposure for one of their more profitable product lines!
Funny number 2: The idea that domainers are part of an inner circle that exists solely for the purpose of helping the other guy buy domain names on the cheap. I always thought we were all in competition for domain names, but go figure… Perhaps I’ll go lowball a bunch of offers on Sedo for good measure… or NOT!
Funny number 3: The idea that domainers have a birth right that entitles them to buying domain names at low prices and selling them for huge profit. Perhaps the Candy.com deal shouldn’t have gone through and Rick should have sold Candy.com to me for a sweet $100… it’s only fair?!? Wait a second, $100 is too much, I want it at reg fee!
Funny number 4: While an isolated group of folks who happen to be members of NamePros consider what we are doing treason and betrayal – by showcasing Godaddy auctions we are actually doing a service to members of the domainer community that happen to pay attention to what we actually write here on dnxpert.com.
Funny number 5: I get it. All is clear to me now. We should be looking at this from a completely different angle. Let me try and dig up some text here… an idea perhaps, about the way the world should be run… perhaps a revolution is in the offing…
From Wikipedia:
Communism is a sociopolitical movement that aims for a classless and stateless society structured upon common ownership of the means of production, free access to articles of consumption, and the end of wage labour and private property in the means of production and real estate.
And then some more:
Anarchist communism (also known as libertarian communism) is a theory of anarchism which advocates the abolition of the state, private property, and capitalism in favour of common ownership of the means of production,[20][21] direct democracy and a horizontal network of voluntary associations and workers’ councils with production and consumption based on the guiding principle: “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need
I could go on and on with the funnies…
Finally, in case I haven’t made myself absolutely clear yet, here is a list of domain names with PR currently on auction in the Godaddy auctions – have fun boys and girls.

Ask them to send $25/day to stop you from posting this list.
what you do cuts both ways.
i have been following and bidding on certain domains that i wish to purchase and you announce the name for everyone to see….so that causes some heartache.
but…i have found a few domains also, from your listings that i have bid on also….can’t remember if i won or not…but was in the hunt.
i know you can generate some income from winning bidders via your blog, so i understand that too.
everyone has something to bitch about.
I read that thread, a disservice ? I am not sure what anyone is doing wrong. I have written many times, we are not all on the same team. There is this thing like if you own domains and meet another person who owns domains, “OH wow we are so unique and part of an exclusive club, our interests are shared” No,not true at all. I met a guy a couple months ago, talking I mentioned domains, he said he owned 1000 domains. I was like what is your NP username ? He replied, what is Namepros ? I then asked do you get a lot of sales at SEDO ? He replied, what is SEDO ? He read no blogs,no forums nothing. There are plenty of people who own domains that don’t belong to the domainer community.
This is an individual sport, Domaining is golf or tennis, not football or baseball. You may make friends, just like golfers do, but on the greens you are on your own to win the game.
The other misconception is looking at an auction with hours left thinking your high bid is safe. Most auctions are not going to get action until the last 20 minutes of the auction so thinking you were going to win going to bed hours before is very foolish imo.
I have blogged about a high valuation auction on Godaddy before, I am sure many were already going to bid on the name. Domainers have to understand that this “industry” is no longer under the radar and especially at Go Daddy where many non domainers know who and what Go Daddy is. Again IMO
@Gnanes: Yea, that’ll be the day
.
@Paul: As I said earlier, Godaddy is doing heaps to promote their auctions. There will be more and more bidders every day regardless of whether I write about the auctions or not.
@RH I couldn’t agree more.
John
Sure glad I don’t link to any Godaddy auctions. I’d hate to feel the wrath of the Namepros members.
Here’s the biggest reason: Like what Domain Name Wire mentioned, names that are in auction are now… showing up in the registration path. Endusers used to see that the name was not available, NOW they see that the name is in auction.
Also believe it or not, many endusers are still not aware of the redemption period when they accidentally did not renew their name. All they know is they do not know where their name is. They will then just type in their name at godaddy.com each day hoping the name will come back and be available to them.
When it does hit the auction, they now know where to go to get it back. They will usually outbid your typical domainer.

your expired domain list rocks and it is a shame you couldnt get candy.com of rick for a 100 bucks , I think Id be happy with that
Sounds to me like sore losers who wants domainers (a small industry) to help out one another (stick together) but also at the same time get greedy and want the name on the cheap so they can flip and make more money.
Sure money makes the world go round, but money is not everything. If you seriously have to take time to post about it or write an email to bloggers, then chances are, you’re a sore loser and can’t adapt to the changes in the market place.
A good thing never lasts long because there are too many opportunists in this world looking to make the easy buck. The sad part is when others come along and make your margins minimal, you have two choices, outsmart them and do things differently (think out of the box) or bitch/moan about it on the internet about what a sore loser you’re (err how the world is singling you out and your margins).
Love or hate me, facts are facts. Until you realize it, you will keep your ways. Adapt, or die.
Actually, it’s funny you should mention ridicule. I was just ridiculing you myself. Nice site, small timer. Open a can of tuna and a bottle of pop and enjoy your dinner.
